BUCKFASTLEIGH The Squadron runs up to four weekend camps at South Devon Railway station at Buckfastleigh. This is a different camp to that based on an RAF station but shares many features. As part of cadet duties they assist the Station staff in duties co-ordinated through the Squadron staff. These duties count towards public services in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
BELGIUM The Squadron has organised several trips to the historic sites in Belgium. This is a week long camp and includes an official parade at Mennen Gate where a wreath is laid by a cadet on behalf of the Squadron to those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Great War. In addition to the formal duties there are a number of site visits. Many of the cadets who attend want to attend future visits. BELGIUM - 2003
BELGIUM - JUL 03
Nine cadets together with the Squadron Warrant Officer and a Civilian Instructor teamed up with cadets and staff from two other South Hams squadrons and spent a week in Belgium. During the camp both cadets and staff spent touring locations of historical interest. One such visit included a special parade at the Mennin Gates at Ypres where the local residents hold a service, which includes the playing of the Last Post every night to cemmemorate those who gave their lives during the Great War . The cadets were invited to join ceremony in which they paraded the ATC Standard. The Standards were lowered during the playing of the Last Post. Wreaths were laid by the cadets on behalf of the Squadron, The Air Training Corps and the Women's Branch of the Royal British Legion in memory of all the British service personnel who had died in conflict and in particular the Great War. BELGIUM - JULY 2004 Cadets together with the Squadron Warrant Officer again teamed up with cadets and staff from 1876 (Kingsbridge) Squadron and spent a week in Belgium. During the camp both cadets and staff repeated the successful camp last year and spent touring locations of historical interest. The camp included a special parade at the Mennin Gates at Ypres where the cadets were again invited to join ceremony in which they paraded the ATC Standard and laid wreaths. BELGIUM - AUGUST 2009 This year the Belgium trip was held in August with seven cadets and three adult staff from the Squadron together with cadets and adult staff from 1876 (Kingsbridge) Squadron. This years visit to the historic sites was particularly poignant with the passing of Harry Patch, the last surviving soldier of World War One. Wreaths were laid at The Somme and at Menin Gate in Ypres as the group remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
